UNREQUITED

“Enikku etathiyute veena kelkkanam”
do you remember that dialogue ?
      I watched that mt vasudevan nair movie ages back and i have forgotten every thing about the movie; except for those words. The picture memory of that scene is etched indelibly in my memory – the girl wants her former lover's wife to play the veena and cool her nerves.
I know the feeling; the veena is so soothing!
     But I do not have any one to play the veena for me - there is no live music in my life.
I will have to do with the next best ; And recently I have been getting lucky that way.
     For the last couple of months I have a Ku band satellite dish and the free dth of the doordarshan.
Luckily it has not been compromised as yet. but not for lack of efforts. All the tv channels disappeared some time back. When I re-tuned most of the tv channels have disappeared – it could be some technical change but the doordarshan at thiruvananthapuram on my telephoning told me there has been not change in the format of the video or any such thing. But as I said earlier I am not very keen on movies and as long as the radio transmission is available I dont care.
The star attraction of the radio part of DD DTH is AIR Raham - that is how tamilians pronounce ragam and it is All India Radio thiruchirappalli, trichy for short.
    Vividh bharathi is also there and what shammi kapoor said on one of their anniversaries is very true – “desh kee sureeli dhadkan” has got “CLASS”. but  I can catch VBS on my philips transistor radio as well and the sound reproduction is better with the radio - the reason could be the cheap speakers I use for my DTH.
   AIR Raham is dedicated to classical music – live concerts. And my favourite is veena – IT IS SO SOOTHING. You switch off the lights and indulge.
“veena kambi murukku, murukkoo;
mal prana preyasee paatooo madhuramai.
Ganathinte lahariyil ennile nhan,
alinjalinjilllatheyavatte”
who said that ?
NOT ME! I never got a chance.

Dil ki har baath adhoori hei, adhoori hei abhi;
thumse ek aur mulakath zeroori hei abhi.
